There are generally 3 objections that most people have when it comes to training or restarting exercise again.
Objection #1: Limiting belief of not being ‘Fit Enough’ to start a new program
To get started all you need to do is take the first step. Instead of overwhelming people, I like to take ‘Baby Steps’ and progress clients step by step.
We do this using our training principles to help people improve their movement (especially now most people move even less than before due to of working from home etc), build strength on their mobility, and then increase their conditioning later.
Objection #2: “Too much work” to be worth it
Unfortunately there are many programs and bootcamps out there who only want to showcase toughness. These coaches simply don’t know any better.
I was just talking to a lady who has been doing our program for only 3 weeks and finds it interesting that we don’t do sit ups or burpees. I explained that there’s a high risk/low reward ratio with these exercises and there are many other things we can do to get real results and keep people safe with appropriate stimulation.
Objection #3: To get results you need to give up on things you enjoy
My favourite one is how nutrition and dieting is perceived. Unfortunately the media conditioned people for dieting and giving up the enjoyment of eating. Everyone seems to talk about calorie counting, magical shakes and teas and restrictions like going keto, vegetarian or full carnivore to get life changing results.
Not many talk about the importance of real, nutritious food or controlling meal times, quality hydration and optimising circadian rhythm through maintaining a proper sleep pattern.
Most people would need to do less and approach fitness/life smarter. This one is especially hard to ‘digest’ as we’re conditioned that ‘More is Better’, however Better is Better, its quality over quantity.
