Sitting is the new Smoking

Did you know – sitting for too long can actually increase your risk of chronic health problems. Studies have shown that people who sit for more than eight hours a day, with no physical activity, have health risks of a level similar to those posed by obesity and smoking. If you work in an office, from 9-5, you are likely to be sitting for 7+ hours a day already.

Spending a lot of time sitting can lead to reduced hip mobility, weaker glutes and a poor posture. These four exercises help to combat those issues, whilst also tackling the effects of the hunched over position that often comes from office working. They do this by:

  • opening up the hips
  • increasing your range of movement
  • opening up your torso
  • stretching your upper back
  • working your glutes
  • activating all the muscles that help to keep you upright (that you don’t utilise whilst you are sitting!)
